I woke up with my left foot dead and a nurse telling me it was "normal numbness." The chart said the nerve block was done on my right side, but the bruise was on the left—right where my foot stopped working.

I watched my sister turn gray at my dining table while everyone stared at the meal-kit card that said “Allergen Free.” By the time the ambulance doors closed, my phone was already buzzing with a company rep telling me to “please not post anything yet.”

I watched the fire investigator stare at the melted baby monitor and then look away like it was a problem he didn’t want. Two days later, my insurer mailed me a letter that sounded like a warning.

My smartwatch said my heart was going irregular. I grabbed my keys and drove like I was running out of time. Ten minutes later I was on the shoulder with my neck locked up, and the insurance adjuster was already hinting it was all my fault.

My mom was fine at breakfast. By midnight she was bleeding internally, and everyone at the facility kept pointing at a screen that said the dose was “verified.”

I woke up choking, with a tight chest and pink foam in my mask. By noon the sleep clinic said it was anxiety, but the ER doctor asked one question: “What machine were you on last night?”

I was halfway to work when heat punched up through the deck and smoke curled around my shoes. By the time I hit the pavement, the battery was hissing like it wanted to finish the job.

I only wanted to finish my shift and keep my health insurance. The chair kept deciding my posture was “wrong,” and the last lock hit so hard I heard something in my lower back change.

The headset went dark, but the pressure around my ribs kept rising. By the time the trainer noticed, I couldn’t pull air in without hearing a wet little crack.

I tore my tendon doing a rehab routine a phone app insisted was "safe" and "clinically calibrated." Two weeks later an insurance letter said my injury was a "pre-existing condition" and the company’s lawyer asked if I could still "walk to a kitchen."
